Problem
Bees are dying faster than they are reproducing. Bees are directly responsible for 1/3 of the world's food production. Both native and honey bees are in danger: Colony Collapse Disorder affects many honey bee hives, killing off a majority of adult bees, causing about a 30% death rate in worker bees. Similarly, According to recent studies, nearly 1 in 4 native bee species are at risk of extinction. This is the result of habitat loss due to urbanization, pesticide use in farming, and climate change.
Mission
As AHS Bee Club Members, we strive to make our community more friendly to pollinators by building pollinator hotels, planting pollinator gardens, and running awareness campaigns through social media and school events. Specifics can be found on the Project and Events page.
